What a wonderful opportunity it was to add our voices and accordion to the worldwide Beethooven360° Ode to Joy choir! We joined with singers and musicians from all over the world. Beethooven360° is the world’s first immersive digital performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony (Final Movement) conducted by Maestro Kahchun Wong, presented by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in partnership with the Foundation for The Arts and Social Enterprise.
What is an immersive video? "Immersive digital video" technology allows you to click and drag your mouse and move around the video vantage point. Try it! Just click and hold then move your mouse right, left, up or down. Keep moving left, and you will view all 360 degrees.
Our Moment of Fame in the Ode To Joy

And Here We Are During Recording

About the Beethooven360° Project
From the video description: "The production, which took place amid the Covid-19 pandemic, is created using digital submissions from world class instrumentalists and singers from institutions such as the Berlin Konzerthaus Orchestra, Chicago Symphony, China National Centre for the Performing Arts Orchestra, Dresden Boys Choir, Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Japan Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, Minnesota Orchestra, Munich Philharmonic, NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Nuremberg Symphony, Orchestre Nationale du Capitole de Toulouse, Philharmonia Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Choir, Philharmonic Chorus of Tokyo and Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra."
"They are joined by more than 1,000 participants as part of a global campaign for a sing along in the renowned Ode To Joy segment. This inter-generational bridging of professional musicians and committed amateurs from 25 nations in the digital space is a symbol of hope and global solidarity, reflecting Ode to Joy’s message of inclusivity, diversity and universal brotherhood."
How Did We Get Involved?
We found out about the opportunity to sing in the Ode To Joy segment through the German embassy in Singapore! Since we had performed the Ode To Joy and other Beethoven music as part of choral performance, it was a slam dunk! However, this was the first time I ever sang any classical music accompanying myself with my accordion. And, it turned out to be a fun way to reach out across the globe and lighten our hearts to help each other get through a dreary time during the pandemic. Below are some screenshots of us participating with the 1,000 other singers and musicians in this wonderful musical performance. What a crowd! I can hardly believe we found our pictures!
It was a delightful experience and we are thankful for having this opportunity to sing with a worldwide choir and orchestra! Special thanks to Meike Tilkorn from Germany and living in Singapore, who enabled our participation.
