The Ballad of Amanda...

My newest video presents my fanciful ballad of sweet sadness and love unfulfilled. It's about a woman's a poignant reminiscence of a childhood love long gone. I am not sure what life experience I may have had to allow me to create such a lovely sad story for my fictional character "Amanda," because I never experienced this kind of love lost in my own life, as I am sure many women have. For this song, I think Tom's guitar playing is evocative, and I hope this song carries listeners through the sweet story of "Amanda," a long ballad in the traditional sense of the genre. Please enjoy my new creation. -- Mary Kay

"Amanda" by Mary Kay Aufrance is a tender ballad of nostalgia and bittersweet emotion. The song tells the story of a woman reflecting on a childhood love that never blossomed into something lasting. Through poetic lyrics and evocative guitar work by Tom Aufrance, the piece captures the innocence of youthful dreams - building treehouses, singing secret songs, and imagining a life together. Each verse unfolds like a memory, painting vivid scenes of play, dance, and imagined futures, all tinged with the ache of what might have been. As the song progresses, the tone shifts from playful to poignant, culminating in a farewell that underscores the theme of love unfulfilled. Amanda's story is fictional, yet it resonates with listeners who've experienced the quiet sorrow of lost possibilities. The refrain "Amanda, Amanda, come play with me" echoes like a distant call from the past, making the song feel both personal and universal. It's a classic example of Mary Kay Aufrance's gift for storytelling through music - where melody and emotion intertwine to create something hauntingly beautiful. (Courtesy of Bing)

My acting debut?

As the mature woman reminiscing and singing in my Amanda music video, this is my first musical theater style singing since I sang the role of Amahl in the operetta Amahl and the Night Visitors, with Tahoe Choir! Certainly, trying to convey a character through singing and acting is a different experience than sitting in front of a camera or on stage for an audience. However, I have been blessed with some really nice compliments on this video. So, I guess I succeeded in depicting Amanda, the fictional yet no-less regretful woman singing of when she let love go.
